Eye and Vision Exams

Eye and Vision Exams

Keeping your eyes healthy and your vision clear is part of your overall healthcare just as a medical physical is part of regularly scheduled healthcare. Eye and vision exams are important tools used to make sure your eyes stay as healthy as the rest of your body. At West Coast Eye Institute, we are here to help. We are a full-service practice in Inverness and can provide a vision exam for every member of your family.

Getting an Eye Exam

You may have some concerns about getting an eye exam. For most people, a routine eye exam is a simple procedure. If this is your first visit, you will be asked some routine questions about your medical history. What medication are you taking? Are you having any vision issues? Do you have allergies? One of our optometrists will examine your eyes with a few different instruments, none of them are painful. If it is warranted you may receive a dilated eye exam and if this is the case, you should have someone with you who can drive you home.

What Optometrists Look for in Eye Exams

An eye exam helps the optometrist to determine whether you need vision correction. If that is the case, you will be given a prescription for lenses to correct your vision. Depending on your age and health issues, our eye doctor will be looking for different things. Many illnesses can be diagnosed through a comprehensive eye exam. Our eye doctor will check for many things like dry eye, glaucoma, and cataracts. All of these conditions can affect your vision and become more common as you age. We will also check for eye alignment and lazy eye, especially in children.

Why Get Eye Exams

It is important to start getting eye exams as a child to monitor the development of the eyes. Some diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure can be diagnosed through a comprehensive eye exam. The earlier a problem is diagnosed and addressed the better the chance of a positive outcome. Your eyes are your windows to the world and clear vision is essential.
